On September 23, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra modi Launched Ayushman Bharat Yojana also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or National Health protection Scheme under Ayushman Bharat Mission of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The mission of this scheme is to reduce financial burden on poor or vulnerable groups coming out of catastrophic hospital episode by making interventions in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems and their access to equality health services.

Key Features 

  1. It provides a cover of  upto 5 lakh per family per year, for secondary and tertiary care hospitalizations for over 10.74 Crore vulnerable families which include approximately 50 Crore beneficiaries, cashless and paperless manner at public or empanelled private hospitals.
  2. Poor deprived rural families and identified occupational categories of urban worker's families as per the latest socio-economic caste census(SECC), 2011 data.
  3. In addition, all enrolled families under Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana(RSBY) that do not feature in targeted group as per SECC data, will also be included.
  4. No cap on family size and age of members.
  5. Covers secondary and tertiary care hospitalizations.
  6. Free treatments at public and empenelled private hospitals.
  7. Benefits of natural portability. Eligible candidates can avail services across the India.

Details of beneficiary categories

The categories in rural and urban that will be covered under PMJAY are as follows

For Rural

Total deprived households targeted for the PMJAY who belong to one of six deprivation criteria among D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D7.

  1. Only one room with kaccha wall or kaccha roof (D1)
  2. No adult member between age 10 to 59 years(D2)
  3. Female headed households with no adult Male member between 16 to 59 (D3)
  4. Disabled member and no able-bodied adult member (D4)
  5. Scheduled caste or Scheduled Tribe households  (D5)
  6. Landless households deriving major part of their income from manual casual labor (D7)

Automatically Included

  1. Households without shelter
  2. Destitute/ living on alms
  3. Manual scavenging families
  4. Primitive tribal groups
  5. Legally released bonded labor 

For Urban

The following occupational categories of workers are included
  1. Rag pickers/ Beggars
  2. Domestic Workers
  3. Street vendors/ Cobblers/ hawkers/ Other services provider working on streets 
  4. Construction workers/ Plumbers/ Mesons/ Labors/ Painters/ Welders/ Security Guard/ Coolie and other head loaders
  5. Sweeper/ Sanitation worker/ Mali
  6. Home based worker/ Artisan/ Handicrafts workers/ Tailor
  7. Transport worker/ Driver/ Conductor/ Helper to drivers and conductors/ Cart puller/ Rickshaw puller
  8. Shop worker/ Assistant/ Peon in small establishment/ Helper/ Delivery assistant/ Attendant/ Waiter
  9. Electrician/ Mechanic/ Assembler/ Repair worker
  10. Washer man/ Chowkidar 

As per the SECC 2011, the following beneficiaries are automatically excluded

  1. Households having motorized 2/3/4 wheeler/ fishing boat 
  2. Households having mechanised 3/4 wheeler agricultural equipment 
  3. Households having Kisan Credit Card with credit limit above Rs. 50,000
  4. Household member is a government employee 
  5. Households with non-agricultural enterprises registered with government 
  6. Any member of household earning more than 10,000 per month
  7. Households paying income tax
  8. Households paying professional tax
  9. House with three of more rooms with pucca wall and roof
  10. Owns a refrigerator 
  11. Owns a landline phone
  12. Owns more than 2.5 acre of irrigated land with 1 irrigation equipment

  • Please Click  Here to logon to website. An individual can search whether he/ she is a eligible beneficiary for Ayushman Bharat Using Mobile Number, Ration Card number collected during additional date collection.
